FESTIVAL REVIEW: THE LONG ROAD 2024 - ANGIE K - THE FRONT PORCH

THE LONG ROAD 2024 - ANGIE K

Described in her slightly bizarre introduction as an El Savadorian who can fix your car, perform DIY, but who can't make you dinner Angie K would reveal herself to be a lady of many talents. It would prove to be very much a transition set, initially showing where her career had started before moving on the where it is going and the sky would surely seem to be the limit for that!

Angie certainly injected a little Latin groove into the Festival as she opened with "Laredo", the tale of Colorado and Mexican lovers. She would unwrap the microphone from its stand and although wearing a guitar she would let it fall down her back as she walked to the front of the stage, surveying the crowd. The mood would continue into "Real Talk", piano heavy with its South American "Da da da da" chorus chant - it would close with Angie dropping to her knees.

The forthcoming single "Stay" would then see start to see the transition into more traditional country, the singing would still contain a touch of Spanish but the change was most definitely under way.

THE LONG ROAD 2024 - ANGIE K

By the time we reached "Red Dirt On Mars", Angie could have convinced us that she was from Georgia - it came with a full introduction about the "red dirt" and would once again see her fall to her knees at the end. A sign of just how quickly Angie K could transfer to mainstream came with "Pour Me A Drink", with a verse that would build with each line before exploding into a powerful chorus - simply magnificent.

For "Mountains", Angie would dispense with the band and would play solo on an intense performance clearly giving her all. This was followed by the brilliance of the outstanding current single "Death Of Me" delivered in an awesome spine tingling performance. There seemed to be a spur of the moment decision, due to the chords being the same to then get the crowd even more involved with a version of "Stand By Me". There was time to squeeze in one last song "Golden", as in "these days will be golden" - it would lead an audience member next to #TEAMw21 to declare this was his set of the festival and it certainly seemed to pass in a flash

Now that Lainey Wilson has gone stellar, those looking for the next comet to hook onto should really be checking out Angie K before she follows that same trajectory.
