While #TEAMw21 were in Nashville it naturally made sense to meet up with old friends and one of our longest relationships is with the marvellous Jenn Bostic. With new UK shows just announced we thought we'd catch up with her in situ to find out more.
We meet for lunch at a local brewery, it is the day of the American election. November 5th yet the temperatures are just shy of 80 degrees in Nashville, so we eat al fresco. The first thing to address are these two upcoming UK shows at the Green Note on Sunday 16th February. Jenn completists should be aware that these shows will contain different sets - there are obviously a number of core songs that will appear in both shows but such is the deluge of requests already, that some will only be played once - so best go and see both shows!!
There is time to reflect on past live highlights, our first meeting at 229 with the wonderful Katie Nicholas supporting, the "Revival"album launch at Bush Hall - which we remarked seemed to be one of those nights where everything went right, it was interesting to hear from Jenn that the run up to that show was anything but, however she did agree it was a fantastic night and that it is the level of UK presence that she is hoping to rebuild. There were also the tours with Sarah Darling, Kyshona Armstrong and Michael Logen, always a joy as Michael would do the driving in the UK.
The Covid pandemic and the birth of her son, combined to keep Jenn away from our shores for some years and even now her forays back into the UK limelight are timed to try and fit as much in while being away from her son for the least amount of time. These UK shows are very much based around a festival appearance in Northern Ireland, at present there are only the London shows but with luck there maybe a couple of shows outside the capital if things fall into place.
We talk about the favourable response to her new single "Kingdom" and learn that she about to go back in the studio to record four or five new songs more in the "Revival" vein. One thing that we did find out about was Jenn's work with local schoolchildren where she will put the lyrics of 10 lucky pupils to music.
Bringing things back to the Green Note shows. #TEAMw21 remarked about how special her most recent visits to the venue have been - particularly in the spiritual atmosphere that is generated when an audience sing together as one, as they do on "Amazing Grace" which normally is fused to "Jealous Of The Angels".
She has a soft spot for The Green Note and indeed the UK audiences. We ask if she has other pockets of fans on the globe where where her music is popular, and Australia emerges as one country that repeatedly asks her to play as well as parts of Europe
