#TEAMw21 have been long overdue giving Matt Owens a review since he did a rather excellent set supporting the mighty Morganway at a show at The Portland Arms, Cambridge - it just happened to be on a night where we were off duty!
His new single "One For The Grapes" is an absolute scorcher, recorded live and crackling with an energy that can only be captured by a band playing live. There are twin electric guitars, and a harmonica contribution from Robert Vincent that lifts things to another level. Added backing vocals Norwegian chanteuse Camilla Sky and twin keyboard contributions go to make this a most marvellous noise.
The song celebrates the now legendary residency that Owens and his band setup at the buzziest pub in the centre of Bath apparently.
Matt joins the proceedings with a suitably raspy vocal as he outlines
"So the valves are hot and the sun is high
There's dust on the breeze as my throat runs dry
There's a list of things I said I'd do
Still gonna try and make it up to you"
It goes on to describe
"Tonight i'm playing - dark cool bar - an ice cold beer and an old guitar"
Complete with excellent guitar and harmonica solos this song races by and instantly demands a repeat listen
