SINGLE REVIEW: MORGANWAY - BOY ON THE TRAIN

MORGANWAY - BOY ON THE TRAIN

A new single from Morganway is always a cause for celebration and this may just be the most "Morganway" track ever in that in just under 4 minutes it shines a light on every individual and group element that makes this beat combo so supreme!. There are clear contributions from each individual musician while the vocals are split between Callum and SJ with the group harmonies also coming in to play - all bases covered!

The opening aural assault of drums, fiddle and acoustic guitar only set the scene for the full band to join in moments later, and at that point you can take your pick as to who is driving the song forward. Ed's powerful back beat is relentless while Nicole's fiddle seems to be playing the man riff, yet hold on because Matt's keyboards, are equally prominent providing a richness to the overall sound.

If anything it is Kieran's guitar normally the sound leading from the front that seems most noticeably muted however fear not his moment comes later in the track. The verses are shared between Callum and SJ, Callum opening the first

"I was down, waiting for you to come round

Waking up in this bed, hearing your sound in my head

Window to all the scenery

She was looking at him and the world he sees

Making a circle in the way she believes"

It's not always easy to pin down exactly what every Morganway song is about - to some degree it doesn't even matter it comes as a complete package of words and music, if you start pulling at threads who knows what will happen. The opening verse has a sense of separation though, and seems to be almost like a split screen film in that we are hearing about rwo people at once, The idea for the song came in the night while Callum was waiting for his wife and son to join him, though fairly sure we should not take that literally as to what it's about

The chorus is suitably punchy and hook laden before SJ leads off on the second verse which adds a little domestic drama to the scene. Her delivery coming with even more power and passion than normal if such a thing could be.

"You were there, I couldn’t help it but stare

Dreaming of you and your face, I study the lines I can’t place

 Window to all the scenery

I play out the words you say to me

There’s no rehearsal, you either stay or you leave"

There's room for an essential Nicole fiddle solo before the song enters a new phase with Callum and SJ trading lines while the harmonies of the Morganway choir sing

"Keep turning it up"

Morganway are set to be tearing up festival stages across the land across the summer - and this seems set to be at the centre of things.
