Heading to the O2 Arena for C2C 2025 and quite probably to the top of UK Country Charrt is Robyn Red with her latest single "My World Is Yours", the second single from her forthcoming EP. #TEAMw21 may have occasionally gently teased Robyn about the speed of her releases but the wait is finally seeming justified.
Looking thoughtful as she is pictured onthe sepia cover picture, means that her trademark red hat looks more a dusky shade of brown, the only vibrant colour on the sleeve being the Red font of her name.
The song opens to a stong fiddle and acoustic guitar, this is most definitely a Scottish fiddle rather than a Nshville one, it immediately sets a scene and gives Robyn her own distinct sound. Her lyrical prowess immediately comes to the fore on the opening lines
"I just learned to walk, I'm into running
But it's worth falling for
Maybe I was blind - never saw it coming
My World Is Yours"
The linking between walking, running and falling is neatly handled, the final falling being for an affair of the heart. The phrase "My World Is Yours" suggests a perfect kinship, so great that you'd open up yourself completey.
"We made a good start
Skipped to the good part
I gave you my heart so fast
It's not in my life script
Not usually like this
This time it's out of my hands"
There is definitely an unbridled enthusiasm runing through the lyrics
The way that your whole world can be turned upside down is perfectly captured by Robyn and co writer Rory McCallum.
"You took the black off my eyes
And took a paint brush
And painted them back to blue
The last line leading to the chorus sees the word "much" extended out on the strongest of deliveries.
You don't have to try - or even say much"
The second visit to the chorus is heralded by a drum intro, the sound picks up and Robyn's voice moves up through the gears with effortless ease.
"It's not been a long time
Take that as a good sign
Can't be the wrong time I guess"
C2C always throws up special moments each year that if you are lucky you get to see and then bore your friends rigid with it for the next 10 years saying "I was there when ......" Can't help but feel that Robyn Red belting this song out, her voice echoing around the O2 may just well be one of those moments. Only one to way find out.
Robyn Red will be at The Roundup Stsge ( formerly the ICON Stage ) on Saturday at 14:00
The Wayside Stsge on Sunday at 12:00
