Just in time for the clocks going forward are Two Ways Home with their latest single "She Keeps Time Like A Casio". Whether this blatant bit of product placement will result in them being bombarded with Casio product remains to be seen, of course of it does they'll probably regret not calling it "She Keep Time Like a Rolex"!
Two Ways Home had been gradually evolving their sound of late in preparation for their second album and this single reflects another chapter, a slick pop tune with Isi taking centrestage this time round.
Instrumentation is pretty light on this tune yet it never feels less than fully realised even though it is just percussion and perhaps a couple of guitars - the rest of the sound is filled out by the vocals especially on the chorus where they entwine perfectly.
The opening verse is something of an enigma, immediately striking a chord with #TEAMw21 for referencing delays on the A40 and also seeming to want to squeeze in one too many words on some of the lines on occasions. It could easily be a further play on the title as it happens more than once, which seeks to compare a person always on time - like a reliable Casio - against someone who it the opposite.
The opening verse sees the perils of being late
"Well I'm flustered and I'm sorry
There was a crash back up the A40
No that's a lie and I feel dirty
Telling you makes me feel I'm unworthy"
I left too late at ten past eight
Lost track of time, I had to get my head straight
I stop by a glass you see through me
Better for worse I'm sticking to my story"
The chorus is a delight, with Isi's vocal taking on a dreamy quality about it.
"She keeps time like a Casio
If I'm late then I already know
That I'm in trouble it's all over her face
She's on fire cos she don't like to wait
She keeps time like a Casio
A minute heavy, one second too slow
If I'm not early then I'm tempting fate
If I'm on time then I'm already late"
It is a great little single that we look forward to soon seeing being performed live soon as the single also comes along with the news that London's finest Songwriters Round - The Round Up will be returning to a new venue The Cumberland Hotel - always likely to punch well above it's weight, a good time is all but guaranteed. The opening show features excellent returnees Joe Martin & Anna Pancaldi as well as a duo you'll hear much more of across the summer Outpost Drive
For those not in the London vicinity there is also a busy schedule of dates around the country that is sure to grow
